Retirement Provision Certificate (RPC)

The Retirement Provision Certificate (RPC) is ideal for employees new to pensions, support staff and those professionals working in related fields. The certificate provides a broad introduction to pensions and other related benefits in the UK. The RPC has been designed to meet the needs of a wide range of people:

  • those who are starting out on a career in pensions or a related area;
  • those whose work involves one particular aspect of retirement provision, such as investment, legal or accounting; or
  • those whose job requires a broad knowledge of the principles underpinning retirement provision.

This section of the website contains further details about RPC, how to prepare for it and how to enter the examination.

Who is RPC for?

RPC is not just for pensions professionals, it is equally suitable for personnel/human resources specialists, accountants, auditors, lawyers, investment managers, secretaries/support staff, financial advisers, trade union negotiators, heads of small businesses, pensions/financial journalists and others who need to know the basics of retirement provision.

Provision for RPC holders

Once the RPC has been gained, the other PMI qualifications should be of interest.

Those who wish to pursue professional examination studies may register as Student Members of the Institute, to study for the Advanced Diploma in Retirement Provision, and will have already qualified the first module. On completion of the core pensions technical modules (the 100 and 200 series examinations) the Retirement Provision Diploma (RPD) is awarded.  There are then three further modules to complete Advanced Diploma studies.

Click here to find out more about the Advanced Diploma examinations.

Professionals in related areas may be interested in subscribing to PMI. This does not confer membership of the Institute but does allow those thus affiliated to keep up to date with important issues in pensions, through receiving PMI News, as well as receiving information about the Institute and discount on the non-member attendance fee for most PMI Conferences and Seminars.

Qualification framework and credit system

RPC is part of the PMI qualification framework and credit system which encourages and supports progress and career development.
