Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
The PMI operates a CPD scheme for its members. The CPD scheme is to be
updated in January 2009 by a new credit-based scheme and an online recording
mechanism. In the meantime, members should continue to record their CPD
activity using the record sheets available below.
What is CPD?
‘The essential maintenance, broadening and acquisition of knowledge required
for the proper execution of the professional responsibilities and technical
tasks by a Member of the Institute’
Who should do CPD?
All members should aim to undertake CPD, and from January 2010 it will be
phased in as a requirement of membership of the Institute.
Why do CPD?
·
It updates and enhances your skills and knowledge.
·
It demonstrates commitment to your development.
·
Undertaking CPD is a key aspect of being a professional.
·
Completion of CPD is noted in the PMI Yearbook.
·
CPD is being phased in is as a requirement of membership.
How does it work?
CPD is run on an annual basis and follows the calendar year. Under the current
scheme, members are asked to attend 15 hours of courses, and complete 25 hours
of private study.
Members
record the courses they attend on a CPD Record Sheet and submit the form to the
Institute for checking (deadlines for doing so can be found on the Record
Sheet).
