Awards in Pension Trusteeship

These are two qualifications for trustees, or those interested in trusteeship, based on the Pensions Regulator’s indicative syllabus. They provide formal recognition of a trustee’s knowledge and understanding (TKU) in line with the requirements of the Pensions Act 2004.

They replace the Trustee Certificate of Essential Pensions Knowledge and Financial Adviser Certificate which were examined between 1993 and 2006.

The structure of the awards is shown below. It is necessary to pass all three units (although not necessarily at the same time) to be awarded the full qualification.

They have received accreditation within the national framework.

Award in Pension Trusteeship (Defined Contribution Schemes)

  • Unit 1: Law and Pensions Overview

  • Unit 2: Core Investment Issues and Funding for Defined Contribution Pensions

  • Unit 3: Scheme Management Issues for Defined Contribution Pensions

Award in Pension Trusteeship (Defined Contribution and Defined Benefit Schemes)

  • Unit 1: Law and Pensions Overview

  • Unit 2: Investment and Funding Issues for Defined Contribution and Defined Benefit Pensions

  • Unit 3: Scheme Management Issues for Defined Contribution and Defined Benefit Pensions
