The Pensions Management Institute (PMI), the professional body focused on supporting and developing the experts who run UK pension schemes, has appointed Ruth Palmer as Director of Learning & Education. In this role, Ruth will lead the Professional Standards and Qualifications teams as well as spearheading a review of the PMI’s qualifications suite and develop and deliver a wider education strategy for the future.
Ruth joins the PMI from the Royal College of General Practitioners where she has spent the last 10 years as Executive Director with responsibility for Postgraduate Training & Standards, Education, Quality, and Research. Prior to this she led all standards, training and examinations areas at the Royal College of Surgeons; this was UK-wide and also in some international areas in relation to standards and examinations. Ruth has extensive experience in governance, introducing highly related new digital services, commercial implementation, addressing equality and diversity, strategic development and CPD products/events/support services. This leadership was in both general areas for all GPs and also many specialist areas.
Gareth Tancred, CEO of the PMI, said: “I am very pleased to welcome Ruth to the team, her
previous experience and track record in the development of professional training and standards
makes her an excellent fit for the PMI. Learning & development remains one of our core values and
Ruth’s appointment will help to further strengthen our focus in this area.”
Ruth Palmer said: “I am delighted to have joined the PMI and will be highly committed to ongoing
developments, quality improvements and innovative new services. In addition to constantly
updating and developing all learning and qualifications areas I will have a major focus on introducing
new approaches with significant benefits and support for examinations candidates and members
and also in many wider organisation areas.”
