Employers wishing to offer the Award to their employees must apply to the PMI for Centre Approval, unless they are already a PMI Approved centre. When applying for centre approval or applying to add a qualification as an existing centre the process and the fee will be for both the Award in Pensions Essentials and the Certificate in Pensions Essentials.
Already a PMI Approved Centre?
To add a qualification to an existing PMI Approved Centre complete the 'Add a Qualification' form and return with the appropriate fee.
Not a PMI Approved Centre?
It will be necessary to apply to become an approved centre - the process involves three stages:
- A 'Centre Approval Form' is completed and returned to PMI along with the approval fee.
- An approval visit to the centre is carried out.
- Once approval is agreed a PMI Approved Centre Certficate is issued and candidates can be registered for the approved qualification(s).
PMI Approved Centres have to meet specified criteria, set out in the Regulation and Guidance Notes for the qualification.
Different types of centre
Single Site Centre
This is a centre where all the candidates are at one location and is broken down into two categories:
Small centres – that have ten or fewer candidates taking the qualification.
Large centres – that have 11 or more candidates taking the qualification.
Multi site centre
If candidates are based at more than one location, it is possible to become a multi site centre. In this setup there must be a main centre contact who will be responsible for dealing with the administration of the qualification across all locations. All correspondence and examination material will be sent to the main centre contact who will be responsible for distributing it to the different locations. Each location must have a designated local contact. The alternative is to register each location as a single site centre.
Apply to become a PMI Approved Centre: £500.
Add a qualification to an existing PMI Approved Centre: £300.
Malpractice and Maladministration Policy
PMI has a responsibility to have in place policies and procedures to prevent malpractice and/or maladministration in the development, delivery and award of its qualifications. PMI is applying this policy to ALL of its qualifications whether they are regulated or not.
This policy is aimed at PMI’s customers, including candidates taking our qualifications and centres delivering, awarding and accommodating the assessment of PMI examinations and/or workbased assessments within or outside the UK.
