Strengthening trustee oversight

The latest guidance for trustees on pensions administration comes from the Pensions Regulator (TPR), notably its updated administration guidance (Dec 2025, refreshed Jan 2026) alongside the Administration section of the General Code (2024).  Trustees need to demonstrate a clear understanding of how key services are delivered, supported by appropriate monitoring, documented processes and informed decision-making.

Independent reviews can provide trustees with assurance and constructive challenge, helping them strengthen oversight of administration services while taking a proportionate approach.

This session will explore how independent reviews can support trustees in the evolving regulatory environment, including:

  • What the latest TPR guidance on admin means for trustees in practice
  • How independent reviews can strengthen oversight and support confidence in administration quality
  • When reviews may be appropriate and how trustees can assess their needs
  • How to ensure reviews are independent, effective and informed by wider market insight
  • When existing advisers provide sufficient support and when additional independent input may be helpful 

We will also explore how trustees and sponsors can take a proportionate approach that supports strong governance without creating unnecessary complexity.

The session will begin with a regulatory and market overview, followed by practical insights and experiences. Live polling will provide insight into how schemes are currently approaching independent reviews and their priorities for 2026 and beyond.

What is CPD? 

Continuing Professional Development (CPD), refers to the ongoing learning and development activities that our professional members engage in to enhance their skills and knowledge throughout their careers. We offer a variety of different services which count as CPD such as in- person events, reading materials including a bi-monthly magazine and more. 

Does the PMI offer CPD?

Yes. We help members track and manage their CPD to stay current and compliant. Depending on your membership type, you will be expected  

How many CPD points can I claim per event? 

You can claim up to 7 CPD hours for all full day PMI conferences.

Are there events I can attend and how do I register?

How much does it cost to attend PMI events? 

For PMI members, events are free. For non-members there will be a cost associated with attendance. 

Can my employer arrange in-house training? 

Yes! PMI offers Bespoke Training, tailoring sessions to your specific needs, goals, and preferred delivery format provides bespoke in-house training and bulk bookings.
