Our governance Strong governance, trusted leadership

  • Commitment to transparency

The PMI is committed to openness in how we operate. Our governance documents, policies and leadership structures are available to view, reflecting our belief that transparency is essential to maintaining trust with our members, partners and stakeholders.

  • Why governance matters

Effective governance underpins everything we do, from professional standards and education to policy engagement and industry leadership. It ensures PMI remains independent, credible and well‑placed to support the pensions profession now and in the future.

  • Clear leadership and accountability

The PMI is overseen by a governing Board responsible for setting strategic direction, ensuring financial sustainability, and maintaining high standards of governance. The Board works to balance professional independence with accountability to our members and stakeholders.

  • Safeguarding trust and integrity

The PMI’s governance arrangements reflect best practice, and are designed to promote transparency, ethical conduct and confidence in our work. Clear policies and processes underpin how decisions are made, how responsibilities are delegated, and how performance is monitored. This structure enables PMI to operate independently, while ensuring scrutiny, challenge and continuous improvement across all areas of activity.

The Board acts as the governing entity of the PMI in accordance with the Articles. It sets the strategic direction of the PMI, oversees the implementation of the strategy and operation and management of the PMI and holds the Executive accountable for their activities. The Board also monitors the effectiveness of the governance structure and framework and keeps the Governance Manual including its list of delegations up to date.
