Integrity at the core

At the PMI we adopt a stakeholder approach to governance, acknowledging the primary interests of our members, and considering the perspectives of third parties such as independent regulators, government, service users and the general public. We adhere to the UK Corporate Governance Code issued by the Financial Reporting Council, as appropriate.

    The PMI’s governance arrangements reflect best practice, and are designed to promote transparency, ethical conduct and confidence in our work. Clear policies and processes underpin how decisions are made, how responsibilities are delegated, and how performance is monitored. This structure enables PMI to operate independently, while ensuring scrutiny, challenge and continuous improvement across all areas of activity.

The documents available for download offer transparency into how PMI is governed, how decisions are made, and how resources are managed, reinforcing our commitment to accountability and good governance.

The Board acts as the governing entity of the PMI in accordance with the Articles. It sets the strategic direction of the PMI, oversees the implementation of the strategy and operation and management of the PMI and holds the Executive accountable for their activities. The Board also monitors the effectiveness of the governance structure and framework and keeps the Governance Manual including its list of delegations up to date.

What does the Pensions Management Institute (PMI) do?

We support individuals and organisations through qualifications, training, and thought leadership in pensions and retirement benefits. We educate pension professionals, we empower tomorrow’s pension leaders, we enable better saver outcomes.

Who is the Pensions Management Institute (PMI)?

The PMI is the UK's leading professional body dedicated to supporting and developing experts who manage UK pension schemes. Our members represent and lead in every aspect of pension management, ensuring the best possible outcomes for scheme members.

What does the PMI do?

We provide education, professional development and industry insights to help pensions professionals excel. Our work promotes high standards and best practices across the pensions sector through accredited professional and lay trusteeship, webinars, events, training, qualifications and more.  

Who can join the PMI?

Anyone with an interest in pensions can join the PMI, whether you're starting out, working in pensions administration, HR or finance, or already in the industry. We offer membership levels for all career stages.

Is the PMI a regulatory body?

No. The PMI is a professional institute, not a regulator. We support the industry through education and standards, while regulatory oversight is handled by bodies like The Pensions Regulator (TPR). The PMI, however, is an Awarding Body, regulated by Ofqual.

How does the PMI support the pensions industry?

We promote high standards for the industry through advocacy and expert commentary, provide quality education, and support all professionals. We educate pension professionals, we empower tomorrow’s pension leaders, we enable better saver outcomes

Does the PMI work with government or regulators?

Yes. We regularly engage with government bodies and regulators to contribute to policy and industry development.

What is the PMI’s stance on pensions policy?

How do I keep informed with the PMI? 

PMI members stay up to date through regular newsletters, publications like Pensions Aspects Magazine and Technical News, webinars, newsletters and the MyPMI portal. Members can also join special interest groups and attend industry events to stay connected and informed as part of their continuous professional development. 

As a non-member, you can subscribe to our marketing communication for paid opportunities to attend our events and webinars.
