About  Unpack the 2026 Autumn Budget

Join the PMI for an insightful discussion on how independent reviews can support trustees in an increasingly complex regulatory environment. As expectations around scheme governance and administration continue to evolve, this webinar will explore the practical implications of the latest TPR guidance, the role independent reviews can play in strengthening oversight and confidence, and how trustees can determine when additional independent input may be beneficial.

The session will also examine how trustees and sponsors can take a proportionate approach to governance, balancing effective oversight with practical decision-making. Alongside a regulatory and market update, attendees will hear practical industry insights and take part in live polling to benchmark their approach against peers and explore key priorities for 2026 and beyond.

Darren Philp

Co-founder and Director

Darren has been hooked by the pensions industry since heading up the pensions team at HM Treasury in 2007 , where he was involved in the design and implementation of the UK’s flagship auto-enrolment programme.

Not only the co-founder of Untamed Consulting, where he focuses on strategy, market engagement, and the PR and policy side, Darren also co-hosts the V-FM pensions podcast.

Darren’s background in the industry speaks for itself; founder of Shula PR and Policy, Director of Policy at Smart Pensions and previous policy roles at The People’s Pension, the National Association of Pension Funds (now Pensions UK), he is passionate about creating a simpler and more engaging industry that delivers better outcomes for its customers.

Darren is active within industry bodies and is a regular commentator in the media. He sits on the PMI policy and external affairs committee, and the PASA DC working group. Darren is also a governor and trustee of the independent Pensions Policy Institute.

I’m an actuary who helps corporate and trustee clients with their pension liabilities. I'm a "numbers person" but I also like to answer (and ask!) the question: "what's the story behind why the numbers change as they do?" If we can answer this together, then we can share a deep understanding.

I get most excited when I find "win-wins" which keep the retirement journey simple and smooth for both members and companies, or when I can future-proof any process in a constantly changing world. I also enjoy being a team leader in our Winchester office.

Although I'm a DB pensions specialist, I have a passion for demographics as a whole, and in the pandemic I designed the concept for LCP's Covid-19 tracker, working with our Health team.
