Welcome to the PMI
Founded in 1976, the Pensions Management Institute (PMI) is the UK’s largest and most recognisable professional body for employee benefit and retirement savings professionals, supporting over 6,500 members in 32 countries.
PMI’s members, represented in 8 regions, are responsible for managing and advising some of the largest institutions in the world accounting for £1trillion invested in pensions. We promote excellence through a range of services for the benefit of members, the wider economy and with over six million now saving as a result of automatic enrolment, society as a whole.
The purpose of the Institute is “To set and promote standards of excellence and lifelong learning for employee benefits and retirement savings professionals and trustees through qualifications, membership and ongoing support services ". To achieve this, PMI:
Promotes and embeds professional standards, setting the benchmarks for best practice
Produces qualifications that have a reputation for excellence and ensure that employee benefits and retirement savings professionals, whether they are scheme managers, consultants, administrators or trustees, are educated to the very highest standards and the latest legislation
Provides continued lifelong learning designed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of employee benefit and retirement savings practitioners in performing to the best of their ability

PMI Regional Groups
Our network of UK Regional Groups organise local seminars, talks and social events. In addition, they provide study support and advice to Students who are preparing themselves for PMI examinations.
Our online TV channel offers a selection of topical, relevant and informative programmes to pensions professionals and trustees. Developed in association with Asset TV, it provides a broad range of presentations, comment, interviews, and webcasts from key figureheads within the pensions industry.
Pensions Aspects and Technical News
Pensions Aspects (formerly known as PMI News) is our monthly magazine which offers technical feature articles, updates from the Pensions Regulator and NEST, details on forthcoming PMI events and qualification updates, news from our Regional Groups and a list of pension job vacancies.
PMI Technical News is our quarterly newsletter which is sent to all our professional pensions and trustee members. It addresses, in depth, one particular topic which is of current interest.

PMI Trustee Group
The PMI Trustee Group is dedicated to supporting individual trustees and trustee boards. The Trustee Group CPD scheme was introduced to recognise and reward ‘Blue Riband’ trustee boards without the addition of more red tape. Current members are drawn from over 100 UK pension schemes.

Awards in Pension Trusteeships examinations
The Awards in Pension Trusteeship (APT) examinations are two qualifications for trustees, or those interested in trusteeship, based on the Pensions Regulator’s indicative syllabus. They provide formal recognition of a trustee’s knowledge and understanding (TKU) in line with the requirements of the Pensions Act 2004.

Trustee Seminars and events
We run a PMI Trustee Group Seminar twice a year in June and November, these events help trustees to focus on areas of risk and provide them with the information and guidance they need to ensure that their company’s scheme is running effectively.

Association of Professional Pension Trustees
The aims of this group are to encourage and promote the highest professional standards in those who practise as professional pension trustees and promote the role of professional trustees.

Certificate in Pensions Automatic Enrolment (DC)
Following the introduction of Automatic Enrolment in 2012 this qualification was designed to meet the needs of those who are advising or implementing the requirements of Automatic Enrolment. It provided an overview of employer requirements and obligations associated with Automatic Enrolment and an understanding of its practical effective implementation.
Under the Pensions Act 2008, the Automatic Enrolment requirements now apply to every employer in the UK and enrolment/re-enrolment procedures are “business as usual”. Following due consideration, the PMI has decided it is appropriate to withdraw the standalone Certificate in Pensions Automatic Enrolment as Automatic Enrolment is covered as appropriate within the PMI Advanced Diploma and related Diploma level qualifications. An overview is also included within the Retirement Provision Certificate and it is covered in the Certificate in DC Governance.
The examination sitting on Wednesday 14 March 2018 will be followed by an additional and final sitting on Wednesday 16 May 2018. Both of these will be based on the 2017/18 syllabus and study manual (and the study manual will not be updated further). We are planning to offer revision courses for both examinations (subject to demand) and details will be available on the website.
In addition, the Entry Closing date for the March examination will be extended from Friday 12 January 2018 to Wednesday 31 January 2018 and the entry closing date for the May examination will be Wednesday 18 April 2018.
NB: There will be no further opportunities to sit/re-sit after the May examination.
Apprenticeships are central to raising skills in the UK. As part of recent reforms to Apprenticeships, the Government has set up a number of Trailblazer projects to design the new Apprenticeship Standards. The aim of the new Standards is to put employers genuinely in the driving seat of creating Apprenticeships, simplify their development and ensure that they are more rigorous and responsive to the needs of employers. The changes that will be implemented through the Trailblazers will fundamentally change the relationship between employers, the government and those who educate and train apprentices. Certificate in Pension Scheme Member Guidance
This qualification is designed to meet the needs of experienced (and qualified) pensions staff who regularly liaise with members selecting options from a pension scheme. It is concerned with improving member outcomes and providing guidance on benefit options. As this guidance is in the area of non regulated advice the qualification provides an overview of the distinction between regulated and non regulated advice, the different types of pension scheme and the factors that need to be considered in making decisions in regard to benefits.
