As Defined Contribution (DC) schemes mature and policy evolves, what’s next for the UK’s retirement system? This keynote explores the government’s long-term vision for DC, the growing importance of master trusts, and how innovation, scale and good governance can deliver better outcomes for members.
With the new VFM framework changing expectations across the sector, this session examines how schemes can demonstrate value beyond cost. Panellists will discuss practical metrics, the role of data, and how to embed member experience at the heart of evaluation.
Decumulation design is moving centre stage. This session explores how trustees and providers can help members make confident retirement choices through flexible pathways, guided support and behavioural insights that deliver sustainable income.
Sackers partner Andy Lewis will explore the key priorities for those responsible for running defined contribution (DC) arrangements, as the DC landscape continues to evolve. The session will focus on how guided retirement is expected to work in practice, and what this means for schemes, providers and advisers. Andy will consider how guided retirement interacts with targeted support, value for money and investment decisions, helping delegates understand how these developments can support better retirement outcomes while balancing member choice and protection.
The defined contribution (DC) pensions landscape is evolving rapidly. Initiatives such as Targeted Support, pensions dashboards and the Pensions Scheme Bill, including the introduction of guided retirement options, will re-shape how DC schemes support members throughout their retirement journey.
For DC pension practitioners, these changes present an opportunity to strengthen member understanding, improve engagement and support better decision-making at retirement. For employers and trustees, they also highlight the importance of working collaboratively to deliver more effective and sustainable retirement outcomes.
Administration is the engine of DC delivery. This session highlights how operations teams are driving change – improving data quality, enhancing member engagement and ensuring transparency across a more demanding regulatory landscape.
Investment innovation can play a vital role in strengthening resilience and improving member outcomes. This may include diversifying into private markets, embedding sustainability more effectively, developing clearer default retirement pathways, or using new technology and AI to support decision-making.
For trustees, the challenge is how to adopt new investment solutions without creating unnecessary operational complexity or adding to governance burden. This roundtable looks at where innovation genuinely adds value, and how DC strategies can be future-proofed while remaining simple, practical and robust.
If you are interested in joining this roundtable please fill out the form here.
This session explores the legal considerations surrounding defined contribution consolidation in the UK pensions market, an area set to develop rapidly as the Government’s asset scale requirements come into effect. It will examine the legal and practical challenges that can arise during large-scale transitions involving existing master trusts and offer guidance on managing these effectively. The session will also consider what consolidation may mean for own-trust occupational schemes and contract-based arrangements. Finally, it will highlight member perspectives and discuss how transitions can be structured to maintain confidence and trust throughout the process.
Master trusts lead DC delivery, but governance standards continue to rise. This session looks at how schemes can strengthen trustee capability, improve oversight and maintain regulatory confidence in a complex operating environment.
While defined contribution (DC) private markets and decumulation attract significant attention, the pre-retirement derisking phase is often overlooked. Yet decisions made in the final years before retirement can have a lasting impact on member outcomes.
This session will explore how investment strategies can better align with the time members have left to retirement. It will examine key risks, including sequencing and longevity risk, and consider the role private markets may play, alongside the liquidity and governance implications for trustees and providers.
Housing wealth is increasingly central to the UK’s long term financial security - but what does the data really show about how people think about, use, and rely on their homes in later life? This session will explore new research on the interplay between housing and pensions.
An engaging final session offering fresh perspective and energy to close the day — from an inspiring journalist, economist, or thought leader. Expect reflections on trust, resilience, and the power of purpose in an era of rapid financial and societal change.
