Agenda
Join us as we open the day with a strategic look at the FCA’s evolving approach to pensions regulation. We’ll explore how its priorities support long-term value, innovation and better member outcomes. This session will also examine the rise of ‘sophisticated scale’—how schemes can use consolidation, governance, and data to broaden asset access and improve outcomes. It sets the tone for a day of practical insight on regulation, resilience, and redefining investment ambition in UK pensions.
How should UK pension schemes respond to economic volatility, political tensions and global market shifts? In this session, leading economists and strategists assess key trends, from inflation and interest rates to geopolitical power shifts, highlighting their impact on long-term investment strategy. Gain clear insight into how schemes can strengthen resilience and position themselves for a rapidly evolving world.
Private markets are playing a growing role in pension portfolios, offering diversification, resilience and long-term value. This panel brings together asset managers, intermediaries and investors to explore where the real opportunities lie from infrastructure to private credit and growth equity. We’ll discuss how schemes can access these assets effectively, what good governance looks like, and how to overcome barriers around scale, transparency and implementation. A practical discussion on making private markets work for all types of pension schemes.
As DB schemes define and move towards their end-game objectives – whether that is buy-out, run off, run on or consolidation – investment strategy must evolve. This session examines how asset allocation, liquidity and risk oversight should adapt as funding levels and time horizons change. Hear from experienced practitioners on aligning investment decision-making with your scheme’s journey plan in today’s market.
Investors are grappling with a stark reality: the climate tools we’ve built to manage systemic risks are failing. This talk confronts the gap between theory and impact, demonstrating how benchmarks and simple exclusion policies achieve portfolio decarbonisation on paper but fall short of driving real-world emissions reductions. We'll explore next-generation solutions that aim for genuine changes in the real economy, with a particular focus on the Bloomberg Cambridge University corporate bond index project, and the role of fixed income more broadly. This session provides a framework for pivoting from flawed metrics to genuine climate change mitigation and systemic transition.
This session will explore how AI, data analytics and digital platforms are reshaping and transforming the way we look at investments, governance, and member engagement. This forward-focused session will consider the role of technology to help drive innovations and dynamism in investments for all stakeholders to create better outcomes.
As regulatory frameworks evolve and market pressures intensify, investors face increasing complexity and risk. This session will explore the potential consequences of diluting investor protections as markets, including the UK, join the race to encourage IPOs to list in their markets by making changes to listing requirements. Dr. Daniel Summerfield will examine the balance between safeguarding investor interests and fostering market innovation, highlighting the impact on trust, transparency, and long-term outcomes. Attendees will gain insights into emerging trends, practical considerations for risk management, and strategies to ensure that investor protections remain robust without stifling market growth.
Hosted by Mayer Brown, this session explores the legal considerations shaping UK pension investment. With changing regulation, growing ESG expectations and market innovation, what does fiduciary duty mean today? Legal experts will unpack key case law and provide clarity on how trustees can navigate evolving responsibilities with confidence.
As members approach retirement, pension schemes face increasing pressure to balance investment strategy, cost efficiency, and evolving member needs. In this session, James Monk, Investment Director at Fidelity International Limited, explores the key challenges schemes must overcome to deliver successful retirement outcomes. He will highlight how effective expense management can drive member engagement, particularly at the crucial pre-retirement stage, and examine the role of the Pension Scheme Bill and Targeted Support in helping schemes meet diverse and shifting retirement objectives. Join this session to discover practical approaches to guiding members towards secure and sustainable retirement outcomes.
As defined contribution (DC) schemes mature and member pots grow, the investment landscape is shifting. This session explores how trustees, providers, and policymakers can recalibrate DC investment strategies to better reflect evolving member needs, market volatility, and long-term value creation.
In this closing keynote, renowned futurologist Tracey Follows looks ahead to the trends transforming work, ageing and financial security. What will tomorrow’s savers expect? And how can pension schemes remain relevant and resilient in a fast-changing world? This inspiring session challenges us to look beyond today and prepare for what comes next.
