Richard joined Burges Salmon over twenty years ago and been a partner in what is now the Pensions and Lifetime Savings team for the past ten years. Richard is dual qualified in Northern Ireland and England and Wales. He is a full member of the Association of Pension Lawyers; a member of the Pensions Regulator’s industry-wide diversity and inclusion working group and sits on the Society of Pension Professionals’ Legislation Committee. He advises trustee and employer clients across the full range of pensions issues from moral hazard investigations, funding negotiations and addressing historic documentation issues to de-risking (insurer buy-ins and buy-outs) and wind-up. Richard leads our work on cyber security for pension schemes.


Outside work Richard is a trustee of the Bristol Aero Collection Trust, the charity behind Aerospace Bristol, and is fighting a losing battle to get his (primary school age) children to follow his passions and pursue a career in either pensions or aviation

Andy is a director in Burges Salmon’s Pensions and Lifetime Savings team. He has substantial experience in all areas of pensions law, advising both pension scheme trustees and employers across a broad range of pensions issues. Andy advises in relation to both defined benefit and defined contribution arrangements. His experience includes projects such as benefit changes, liability management, closures, bulk transfers, mergers, corporate restructurings, historic scheme documentation issues, buy-ins/outs, use of surplus and winding-up.

He advises on all aspects of the day to day running of pension schemes, including in relation to scheme governance, pensions dashboards, cyber security, drafting scheme documentation, member queries and providing trustee training. Andy is dual qualified in England & Wales and Northern Ireland.

Pauline has over 19 years’ experience in the pensions industry and a strong track record of advising trustees and corporate sponsors on funding, strategy and regulatory change. A Scheme Actuary since 2022, she leads XPS’s internal expert team responsible for shaping the firmwide approach to the new funding and investment regulations - developing technical materials, delivering training, and supporting scheme actuaries across the business, honing unique expertise in this area.

Outside of work, she enjoys the great outdoors and sharing her passion for it with her two young daughters.
