We are currently living through unprecedented levels of global volatility and yet UK portfolios, invested globally, don't pay much attention to the fact that they typically see between 20% and 40% of their annual risk “budget” being consumed by foreign exchange volatility. This session explores current market views and case studies to demonstrate the significant impact of FX risk on overseas investments over the last 20 years, and identify methods to transform this risk into potential profit opportunities that can be used to improve cashflow, and improve outcomes for savers.

Investment in the real economy is set to rise, as capital allocators are pressed to achieve higher potential risk-adjusted returns, access a broader range of alternative asset classes, while supporting UK economic growth.  With a positive pension industry reform, UK pension funds are well positioned to capitalise on opportunities available through listed investment companies that offer access to a diverse range of actively managed portfolios of alternative assets – with the benefits of liquidity, governance and transparency of the public markets.

Dr Jo Salter MBE
Dr Jo Salter MBE
- Britain's First Female Fast Jet Pilot

Jo Salter is famed for becoming the first female fast jet pilot, having flown the Panavia Tornado ground attack aircraft during her services in the Royal Air Force. Joining the RAF aged 18, Jo has since taken Air Cadets into the skies as part of Air Experience Flights and become the Director of Global Transformative Leadership for PWC. In 1992, Jo earned her wings to fly and she later completed her fast jet training at the end of the year. Becoming a Flight Lieutenant of 617 Squadron, Jo went on to claim the title of the first female fast jet pilot. Since then, Jo has piloted flights in the Air Cadets Air Experience Flights and inspired countless budding armed service members to pioneer a male-dominated sector. Since leaving the military behind, Jo has established a strong business career working in roles such as Head of Technical Services for NetConnect, European Operations Manager for Automated Power Exchange and Managing Director of Saltin Ltd.

Jo is a passionate Trustee of The Royal Air Force Club and an Ambassador of the Global Angels charity, an organisation that gives communities around the world access to clean water, education, healthcare and encourages female and youth empowerment.
