PMI launches skills drive among India‑based pension administrators to support UK savers

The Pensions Management Institute (PMI) is stepping up efforts to raise professional standards across the UK pensions ecosystem with a focused visit to India by its Chief Customer Officer, Varsha Gicas.

The move comes as UK pension firms increasingly rely on large, highly skilled administration teams based in India to deliver services for millions of UK savers.

With these teams now forming a critical part of the UK pensions infrastructure, the PMI is seeking to ensure they have access to the same high‑quality training, professional development and membership pathways available to UK‑based staff.

The visit will explore how the PMI can better support these professionals, understand their needs first‑hand, and help drive consistent standards across borders.

Varsha will meet administrators, team leaders and senior managers across several Indian cities to discuss how PMI education can be delivered in ways that are accessible, relevant and tailored to the realities of working in India.

Varsha Gicas said:

“If we want the best outcomes for UK savers, we must raise standards across the entire pensions administration workforce - wherever those teams are based. The PMI is committed to supporting the highly skilled professionals in India who play a vital role in delivering UK pensions every day.

“This visit is about strengthening quality, building confidence and ensuring that everyone contributing to the UK system has the opportunity to develop and excel, while driving better outcomes for UK savers.”

The visit forms part of the PMI’s wider commitment to supporting all professionals involved in UK pensions administration, recognising that high‑quality service depends on consistent standards, strong technical understanding and a shared sense of purpose across borders.
