Ian has been working in pensions as a lawyer now for nearly 20 years, and is now Co-Head of the pensions team at Mayer Brown. In his day job, he works with a wide range of schemes, acting for a mix of trustees and employers, on the full range of pensions legal work.
Over the years, he has also worked with Government on various new legislation, including tax simplification and discrimination changes, and more recently joined the Association of Pension Lawyers legislative and parliamentary subcommittee.
One of the best pieces of advice he received early on was to study for APMI status, to really understand what was involved. Later on, he spent some years as an assistant and then principal examiner, as well as writing for PMI News. More recently, he has led the team at Mayer Brown that works on the DC Governance Manual.
Discussions recently with a couple of current Council members led him to realise that he'd like to do something more for the PMI, an organisation he respects hugely, and that a lawyer on Council could add value.
